Zurich ranks in the top 10 Global Financial Centres Index 2020, second in Europe behind only London, and the UBS bank has been reported to be the largest globally in terms of private wealth management.  Around 70,000 persons are employed in the financial services sector in the region (including Zug and the Zurich Lake area).

Here is a list of some of the banks, asset management, and other financial institutions in and around Zurich with some approximate details. No guarantees are given as to the completeness or accuracy of the information.

UBS  Is the largest Swiss bank with assets of around CHF 1 trillion and employs about 50,000 persons worldwide. It also has headquarters in Basel.

Credit Suisse The second largest with around 40,000 employees and  CHF 900 billion in assets.

Zurich Cantonal Bank (ZKB) Belongs to the Canton of Zurich who guarantees its liquidity. It has assets of around CHF 100 billion and 4000 employees.

Pictet  Was founded over 200 years ago in Geneva and now has around 3500 employees and CHF 400 billion in assets. It is one of the largest Swiss Private Banks

Vontobel  With its headquarters in Zurich Vontobel manages around CHF150 billion in private and institutional assets. It is owned largely by the Vontobel family and employs about 1500 persons worldwide.

Julius Bär Is one of the old Swiss Private banks that now focuses on private banking with some CHF 250 billion under management. Dating back to 1890, it has recently split off asset management which is now assigned to Swiss and Global AM.

Swiss and Global AM employs around 1000 persons in 10 countries and has assets of around CHF 110 billion under management.

Bellevue Asset Management is part of the Bellevue Group which includes BBBiotec. They have a superb lakeside location on the „Goldcoast“ just south of Zurich and specialize in the healthcare sector.

Rothschild Wealth Management  The Zurich bank was founded by family members around 50 years ago and is located in a quiet residential area. Globally the group has some 4000 private clients in 90 countries.

Bank Safra Sarasin has offices in Basel, Geneva, and Zurich and employs around 2000 persons managing CHF 130 billion for private clients
